Top seed Tanvi Patri of India defeated Vietnam’s Thi Thi Huyen Nguyen in the final to win the Asian Championships U-15 title at the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 junior championships in Chengdu, China on Sunday.
Tanvi Patri, 13, cruised to a 22-20, 21-11 win in just 34 minutes over her second-seeded opponent in the summit clash.
In the final, Tanvi Patri was trailing 11-17 in the first game, but kept her calm as Nguyen made a series of unforced errors. The Indian made the most of the opportunity to claim the first game.
Once Tanvi found the rhythm Nguyen was no match to the top seed as Indian clinched the final.
With this win, Tanvi Patri joins Samiya Imad Farooqui and Tasnim Mir who had won the U-15 girls singles crown in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
India returned with a haul of two medals, including a gold and a bronze. Gnana Dattu TT had won the bronze medal in the U-17 boys singles event on Saturday.
