Yuvraj has no coaching experience with any team or franchise but has worked with talented others like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
Yuvraj Singh won’t be replacing Ashish Nehra for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 season. Instead, the two-time World Cup winner is in line to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) as their head coach. Last month, a report came out that Nehra, the mastermind behind GT’s success in 2022 and 2023, wasn’t interested in continuing as the franchise’s head coach and would be replaced by Yuvraj. It turns out that’s not the case.
Yuvraj Singh, the new DC head coach?
According to Sportstar, DC’s management is keen to bring Yuvraj on board as a replacement for Ricky Ponting, who left the franchise as their head coach after 7 years (2018–2024). The talks have started to bring the Indian great on board for the IPL 2025 season, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Mind you, this will be Yuvraj’s first gig as a coach if the discussion reaches a positive conclusion. However, he has helped several cricketers from Punjab hone their skills. Current India vice-captain Shubman Gill and T20 superstar in the making Abhishek Sharma have both trained under him.
There were speculations before that Sourav Ganguly, DC’s Director of Cricket, was going to take over as the head coach, but it seems like the management has decided that they want Ganguly to handle the overall operations of the franchise and hand the responsibility of coaching to someone else.
GT look for Kirsten’s replacement
As for GT, Nehra would continue as their head coach, but the management will look for Gary Kirsten’s replacement after the South African assumed the role of Pakistan’s white-ball head coach after the IPL 2024 season.
