Neeraj Chopra, Diamond League Live: Shortly after his Paris Olympics silver medal, Indian superstar Neeraj Chopra returned to action at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 in Switzerland on Thursday with another season best throw in a thrilling finish.

Having struggled for most of the night with throws in the early 80s, Neeraj needed to come up with a) a big 5th throw to make the top three and have a 6th attempt and b) a huge last throw to go up from third to second. He achieved both those feats to finish with a new career 2nd best throw of 89.49m, behind only Anderson Peters’ monster 90.61 just a few minutes earlier.

Facing an injury concern and a stacked field, sans Paris gold medallist Arshad Nadeem, Neeraj faced a stern test to retain the title he bagged last year at the Athletissima meet. Neeraj, who had only participated in one Diamond League meet before this one this season, has postponed his treatment for a groin niggle after the Paris Games since it didn’t feel exacerbated after the Olympics.
