Sunny Kaushal
‘s latest release, ‘
Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba
‘, sees him as the new entrant in this already popular franchise starring
Taapsee Pannu
and
Vikrant Massey
. Sunny’s character sees a huge twist in the film and has him in some quirky, grey shades which is the shocking moment for the audience. In a chat with ETimes, Sunny discussed his character, his favourite thrillers and actors he’s been influenced by.
Sunny said, “I have grown up on a lot of thrillers.
‘Baazigar’ is one of my favourite. The character which Shah Rukh sir portrayed in
Baazigar
was so beautiful because the whole film you think he’s the hero and then there’s the twist. In the end, when you see him with his mother, you feel for him. He did it so beautifully.”
So, ask Sunny, if this is his ‘Baazigar’, and he instantly says, “Yes, you can say that this is my ‘Baazigar’ moment.”
He further added, “I also read a lot of thrillers and books, not just movies. As an actor, you take things from everyone – tour peers, your seniors who have done so much work and entertained people. You’ve grown up watching so many people and wanting to be like them. It does influence you.”
Sunny revealed he was cast in the movie because he has this innocence in him. “When Kanika Dhillon called me and narrated the script, I was like, ‘are you sure you want me to play this?’ She said ‘there is that innocence in you, so when you flip, the audience will not be expecting it. It is a tricky character, if people like it, then like it or it can go either ways. So, I just did it to test my waters.”
The actor says, it’s fun to play grey shades, but the audience must also get the satisfaction when the bad guy gets his due in the end. “It’s so refreshing to suspend your moralities for your character and play them. The more far your character is from who you are, the more fun it is to play it. That’s what happened to Abhimanyu and Ankit Sethi as well, from ‘Chor Nikalke Bhaga’. In the larger story, what they were saying was important. In no way, one should feel what he did was right. So, the audience needs to get that satisfaction, like when Ankit Sethi’s face gets beaten up and Neha gets that satisfaction. To show that is important.”
