India vs Great Britain Hockey, Paris Olympics 2024 Quarter Final Live Updates: The Indian hockey team has defeated the Great Britain hockey team to enter the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics after forcing a penalty shootout despite playing with one man less for 42 minutes.

Right after they had seen Amit Rohidas red carded for a stick in a GB player’s face, India took a 1-0 lead in the game. But the Great Britain team scored with half-time in sight to level at 1-1. The score stayed 1-1 till the end of the 60 minutes. For India, it was captain Harmanpreet Singh who scored from the penalty corner, his seventh goal at Paris 2024.

Thanks to the red card to Amit Rohidas, India played over 40 minutes of the game with one player less. Amit Rohidas was red-carded for a stick on the face of GB’s William Calnan. The TV umpire saw the replays and decided it was an “unnatural movement of the stick”.

After their historic win over Australia, the Harmanpreet Singh-led India are looking to seal their semifinal berth.
India saved their best for their last Pool B match, stunning Australia 3-2 to record their first win over the Kookaburras in the Olympic Games in 52 years. India had last defeated nemesis Australia way back in the 1972 Munich Olympics before the playing surface shifted to astro-turf.

The highlight of India’s performance against Australia was the co-ordination between midfield, led by Manpreet Singh and vice-captain Hardik Singh, and the forwardline, where Gurjant Singh and Sukhjeet Singh stole the limelight. And come Sunday, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Indians would look for an encore from the two departments to outwit the world no.2 Great Britain.

Before landing in Paris, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side, which will face Britain in the Paris Olympics quarterfinals on Sunday, spent three days in the Alps at the training base of adventurer Mike Horn. There, the players were ‘moved further out of their comfort zones than what they’ve ever been moved out of’, Upton says, and were made to do things that, if gone wrong, would have had ‘much worse consequences than losing in a hockey match’.
