Summer Paris Olympics 2024 Live: 128 athletes from 53 countries — including six Indians — will start their Paris 2024 campaign on Thursday as the archery competition starts off with the ranking rounds. In archery, there are five gold medals on offer. Archers will compete at a huge temporary arena (which can still hold 8000 fans) constructed on the Esplanade des Invalides.
The three-member Indian men’s archery team has the likes of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav while the women’s team will have Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur. All eyes will be on the 22-year-old Dhiraj Bommadevara, who is the top ranked male Indian archer in the fray at World No 12, has won 10 international medals in the past 12 months. He’s making his debut at the Paris Olympics. In the women’s event, Deepika Kumari is also ranked 12th in the world and has experienced the pressure of the Olympics several times since the London Olympics.
The weather conditions for the Paris Olympics archery events, which could play a significant role in an outdoor sport like archery, are expected to be under control for the ranking round on Thursday. According to the World Archery website, the weather conditions for Thursday in Paris look like it will stay dry but be cloudy and fairly hot, around 26°C in the morning for the women’s session, and nudging 29°C in the afternoon for the men.
