Kolkata: Sporadic violence reported in four by-polls in West Bengal with a BJP polling agent’s house vandalized and fired at In another location in Ranaghat, a BJP Panchayat worker was attacked. In Bagdah’s Gabpukuria , tension erupted in a booth and BJP candidate Binay Biswas was chased and he was forced to leave the booth media persons were also attacked allegedly by Trinamool miscreants. The BJP candidate was attacked and rear glass of his vehicle was vandalized allegedly by the miscreants as stones were hurled. The central force was present at the booth and helped the candidate to leave the booth.
Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Around 24% polling was recorded till 11 am. Four constituencies – Maniktala in Kolkata, Ranaghat Dakshin in Nadia district, Raiganj in north Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district and Bagdah in North 24 Parganas have gone to polls. BJP leader Tapas Roy said, “CAPF has been chased in Maniktala. In Ranaghat, our polling agents have been removed and beaten. In Maniktala, polling agents have been intimidated. TMC miscreants from outside are moving around everywhere. We have informed the Commission. Miscreants can be seen in Web Cameras. The Election commission and central force must be active if the EC wants to save democracy. Such systeem must be restored to ensure peaceful elections.”
