Australian batter David Warner who had confirmed that he would retire after the conclusion of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup, penned an Instagram post bidding goodbye but still kept the door ajar for a return to the Australian side in the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 if “selected.”

Warner took to his Instagram to pen his thoughts for the first time since the 2024 T20 World Cup – which he had confirmed as his last tournament for Australia. However, the swashbuckling opener also admitted the door is still open for another tournament.

“I will continue to play franchise cricket for a while, and I am also open to playing for Australia in the Champions trophy if selected,” he wrote.

Warner had called it quits from the 50-overs format after Australia’s World Cup win last year and played his last Test earlier this year against Pakistan.

In his address to the fans and the players in his post, Warner added, “I truly hope I have entertained you and changed cricket, especially tests, in a way where we scored a bit faster than others.

Festive offer

“To the players and staff, thanks for putting up with me. No more what’s app junk, your ears are now going to be free of my voice. This team has had unbelievable success the Last few years and long may this continue. Pat Cummins, Andrew old Mac and staff have got this,” he added.

Warner played 383 games for Australia across formats, scoring 18,995 runs, winning two ODI World Cups, a T20 World title and a World Test Championships title during his time with the national team.
