? In an interview, Bhansali revealed that he first thought Jaya did not like the film.
He later found out that she played a huge role in helping the film reach the Berlin Film Festival.
The director said, “It was wonderful that it was selected in Berlin; it is now gone to every festival.”
“There were two people responsible for it. One was Dorothy, who came here from Berlin to select a film, and a taxi driver said, ‘Memsahab aap ye picture dekho humare saath. (Ma’am, you watch this film with me.)’ He went with her, sat with her, explained the film to her, and she fell in love with the film,” he recalled at the Star Plus’ Star Talk.
Bhansali added that Jaya Bachchan was the other person who recommended the film very strongly to Berlin. She came and saw the film, and the day she saw the film, she came out, smiled at me, and left. He revealed that he thought she hated the film; it was before the release of the film.
He spilled that Jaya Bachchan called him one day and said, “You thought I hated the film, but my way of saying that I like the film was to recommend it to Berlin and see to it that it goes over there.”
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is still one of Bhansali’s best films. Since the film, Bhansali has teamed up with Aishwarya, Salman, and Ajay on different projects. Bhansali worked with Aishwarya in Devdas (2002) and Guzaarish (2010). Meanwhile, Bhansali and Salman teamed up for Saawariya (2007). Ajay and Bhansali teamed up for Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).
