Days after Mohan Bhagwat‘s remark that a “true sevak could not be arrogant”, RSS said the comment was not aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP leadership. A senior Sangh member also distanced RSS from national executive member Indresh Kumar‘s remarks that ‘people restricted the arrogant party to 240 seats’, terming it his personal view. The functionary, however, added that BJP chief JP Nadda‘s remarks during polls that the party did not need Sangh anymore didn’t go well with Sangh workers engaged in elections. It demoralised them, he claimed. Rejecting speculation that there were differences between RSS and BJP, RSS insiders said its cadre was involved in electioneering for BJP but may not have been more visible this time.
