Former pacer Dhawal Kulkarni, who retired from the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, will return to the Mumbai dressing room once again for the upcoming season – this time, as the team’s ‘bowling mentor’.
The decision was taken by the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Apex Committee, which met on Wednesday. The MCA will also felicitate India great Sunil Gavaskar on the occasion of his 75th birthday, which will be celebrated on July 10. Earlier, the MCA had named a special box after Gavaskar.
Further, the local body decided to release commemorative stamps dedicated to Mumbai cricket.
“We have decided to appoint Dhawal Kulkarni as bowling mentor for the new season. At the same time, Amol Kale (President) proposed, and the Apex Council unanimously approved, to felicitate Sunil Gavaskar on the occasion of his 75th Birthday. The MCA has also decided to release stamps on Mumbai cricket,” MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik told The Indian Express.
Kulkarni, who retired from all forms of the game last season, has been tasked with mentoring the next generation of Mumbai bowlers. The former India pacer-turned-commentator played a key role in the Ranji Trophy final last season. He took four wickets, including that of the last man, against Vidarbha to lead Mumbai to the 42nd title.
The MCA had already decided to continue with their current coaching staff, led by chief coach Omkar Salvi.
