After joining the team this season, one of Gambhir’s biggest decisions was to reassess Sunil Narine’s position.
A day before the Indian Premier League Final in Chennai, Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders, cast his ballot in New Delhi. Now that the team is set to play SRH in the final, Gambhir is scheduled to travel to Chennai. Gambhir, who has been KKR’s pillar of support this season, has led his team to the tournament final in a commanding manner.
When asked about the IPL final by reporters outside the polling booth, Gambhir didn’t divulge much, just saying, “Fingers crossed for the final.”
Having won nine of their fourteen games in the group stage, KKR easily defeated SRH in Ahmedabad to advance to the all-important finale. On Sunday, May 26, KKR and SRH will square off once more at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium in the summit match.
Gambhir the game-changer for KKR?
In both of their matches so far this season, KKR have prevailed over SRH. At their home field of Eden Gardens, KKR played SRH in their tournament opener and narrowly won in the thrilling final over. In Ahmedabad, KKR’s second encounter in the Qualifier 1 was far easier to watch as the team outperformed SRH in every aspect of the game.
Gambhir role in Narine’s rebirth
After joining the team this season, one of Gambhir’s biggest decisions was to reassess Sunil Narine’s position. As one of the most valuable players in the tournament this season, Narine’s shift to the opening position has been extremely beneficial for both him and the team.
Throughout KKR’s season, Gambhir’s competitive spirit has been evident as the team has battled hard both on and off the field.
