Manoj Bajpayee
has often been in the public eye not just for his stellar performances but also for his personal
rift
with director
Anurag Kashyap
. The two have worked together on acclaimed films like Satya, Gangs of Wasseypur and Gangs of Wasseypur 2. However, their professional relationship soured over time.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Manoj addressed the rift with
Anurag
Kashyap.
He revealed that there was a
misunderstanding
about one issue, and they didn’t discuss it. This fueled fire in the
gossip
and people started exaggerating things and blowing it out of proportions.
“I felt that Anurag wasn’t making films of my type, and he also felt that there was no need for Manoj
Bajpayee
at that time because my career was going down. So, both of us were enjoying our lives separately; he didn’t need me, and I didn’t need him,” Manoj explained.

Anurag has previously spoken about Manoj’s temper, sharing that Manoj’s reputation for rage is well-known from Bihar to Mumbai. On
The Kapil Sharma Show
, Anurag recounted an incident where Manoj chased him with a stone, believing that Anurag had insulted him.
“When Hansal (Mehta) was directing ‘Khana Khazana,’ we all used to gather at Gulzar’s house for food tasting because we were all hungry and struggling,” Anurag said. “Manoj felt I said something to insult him, so he chased me down with a stone in his hand, trying to beat me as Hansal tried to stop him.”
Manoj was reminded of this incident on Aap Ki Adalat, where it was mentioned that Anurag didn’t speak to him for 11 years due to various issues. Manoj candidly admitted, “Once I got angry with him and ran behind him to beat him.”
Despite their tumultuous past, both Manoj and Anurag have continued to make significant contributions to Indian cinema.
