Finally! The day has come. The career that started in the summer of 2003 is finally going to end in the summer of 2024. After providing services to the England cricket team for 20 years, James Michael Anderson has decided to retire from Test cricket. With 700 wickets in 187 Test matches, he is regarded as one of the greats in Test cricket.

In his recent Instagram post, Anderson announced his retirement, saying, “Hi everyone. Just a note to say that the first test of the summer at Lord’s will be my last test. It’s been an incredible 20 years representing my country and playing the game I’ve loved since I was a kid. I’m going to miss walking out for England so much. But I know the time is right to step aside and let others realize their dreams just like I got to, because there is no greater feeling.”

Since the news broke, there has been a huge eruption of love and affection for Anderson taking over the internet. Let’s take a look at a few reactions, which are enough to make you believe how great Anderson’s career was.

Age is just a number for James Andreson

At the age of 41, James Anderson remains one of the fittest players in world cricket. In the last series against India, he stated, ‘I’m not getting any worse. I’m definitely in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I like where my game is at, and I still have that enjoyment of turning up every day and trying to get better in the nets. My place in the team is not a given, so I’ve got to work hard to prove I’m worth a place in the summer.’

This statement reflects Anderson’s mentality at this stage of his career. The way he played cricket to date surely deserves all the appreciation and love without any question.
