TAMLUK: West Bengal police registered Sunday an
FIR
against retired
Calcutta HC
judge and BJP’s Tamluk Lok Sabha seat candidate Abhijit Ganguly along with party functionaries and workers on charges, including
attempt to murder
, defamation of women, and
assault
. Trinamool primary teachers’ association chief had filed the complaint, naming Ganguly and BJP Yuva Morcha functionary Prashant Das.
Under Section 307 IPC, attempt to murder is a non-bailable offence, prompting strong reactions from Ganguly.
“Let there be a complaint. There are several such false cases. We will see how long these complainants can stay away from court cases. TMC is trying to foment violence and people have understood their plans,” he said.
BJP sources questioned police’s decision to file serious charges against the retired judge and alleged a Trinamool conspiracy.
Complainant Maidul Islam claimed that they were attacked following orders from Bengal BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari and Ganguly.
BJP sources contested the allegations, saying Ganguly was not present at the scene during the unrest.
