Mumbai: The BJP on Sunday filed a

complaint

against opposition leader

Vijay Wadettiwar

for breaching the

election code of conduct

.
In his complaint, the president of the party’s Mumbai unit, Ashish Shelar, stated that Wadettiwar was spreading false information. This not only violates the Model Code of Conduct but also poses a risk of inciting communal tension and creating enmity and tension between different communities on religious grounds.
Shelar further stated that the Indian National Congress, the party represented by Wadettiwar, had not distanced itself from these remarks and seemed to silently endorse this narrative.

“This alignment suggests a deliberate strategy by the INC to polarise and create communal tensions to further its prospects in the upcoming general elections,” reads the complaint.

On Saturday, Wadetiwar had claimed that the bullet that killed IPS officer Hemant Karkare was from the weapon of a police officer “dedicated to RSS’ and not from the gun of Ajmal Kasab or any of the other nine Pakistani terrorists who attacked Mumbai on 26/11. He alleged Ujjal Nikam special public prosecutor in the case and BJP LS candidate from Mumbai North Central was “a traitor who suppressed this fact.”
Shelar has requested the Election Commission of India to instruct Wadettiwar to apologize publicly without conditions, lodge an FIR against him, start an investigation into his statements, and expand the inquiry to include the involvement of the Congress party in promoting this harmful narrative.
