Gujarat Titans hit rock bottom, record lowest powerplay score of IPL 2024

The Gujarat Titans are the only team to feature twice in the list of the lowest powerplay scorers this season.

The IPL 2024 season is going from bad to worse for the Gujarat Titans. Having lost Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians and Mohammed Shami to injury before the season, no one gave the Titans any chance. It turns out all the naysayers were right. Under their new skipper, Shubman Gill, the franchise has struggled. Today (May 4), they registered the lowest powerplay score of the IPL 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

After a poor first over (1 run), their opener, Wriddhiman Saha, departed in the second over, scoring 1(7). In the fourth over, they lost Shubman Gill as well and scored 10/2 after 3.5 overs. It was on the next ball that the Gujarat Titans scored their first boundary of the inning, and that too came off an inside edge.

In the final over of the powerplay, they lost their most dependable batter this season, Sai Sudharsan. The southpaw chewed up 14 balls and scored just 6 runs. If it weren’t for David Miller’s four of the last ball of the powerplay, they could have scored just 19 runs in the first six overs.

Team Score Run Rate Opposition
Gujarat Titans 23/3 3.83 Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Punjab Kings 27/3 4.5 Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mumbai Indians 28/4 4.66 Lucknow Super Giants
Gujarat Titans 30/4 5 Delhi Capitals
Rajasthan Royals 31/2 5.16 Delhi Capitals
