Actress
Jyotika
found herself at the receiving end of online trolling following a recent statement she made during a press meet in Chennai. While promoting her upcoming Hindi film ‘Srikanth’ starring
Rajkummar Rao
, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar in key roles, the actress faced a question about her act of not casting a vote in the recent elections.
During the press conference, one reporter asked Jyotika why she skipped
voting
in elections.
The actress replied saying that she votes every year, which made the reporter correct her by saying that elections never happen every year but only once in five years. Soon, Jyotika apologized and corrected herself. But the reason she revealed for not casting a vote became a serious topic of discussion on Twitter.
She stated that there were times when she was outstation during the election, and sometimes people can be sick and miss voting. She called it a private thing. Jyotika further added that sometimes she casts a vote privately, like online. Not everything is publicized but private according to her. She wanted everyone to respect that private space.
Netizens
could not hold their wonder how she is able to cast a vote online when everyone goes down to the voting booths to cast their votes in the nation.
Jyothika: I was meant to go to the south perhaps, marry the right man, do the right films
Twitter users started criticizing her by sharing the clip and one wrote, “Hi @ECISVEEP @TNelectionsCEO. How can you give special privilege to @Jyothika_offl to ‘vote online privately’ and why don’t we have that option? Please explain…” Many started commenting that this is not a ‘Big Boss’ show election to cast your vote through online mediums. Finally, one reacted, “Social reformer Jyotika, even an uneducated person knows the election happens once in 5 yrs not every year. I have never known about private &
online voting
in Indian elections.”
Jyotika was last seen in ‘Shaitaan’ alongside Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan. The Vikas Bahl directorial became a big hit and earned over Rs 150 crore at the box office.
