Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav’s return from injury was short-lived as he was forced to walk off the field again during their IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday. Mayank, who had missed the previous five games due to a side strain, had finally made his comeback.
He was bowling his final over of the spell and even managed to take a crucial wicket of Mohammad Nabi, raising hopes for a strong end to the first innings. However, just after dismissing Nabi, Mayank appeared to aggravate his injury and left the field. This forced LSG to call upon Naveen-ul-Haq to complete the remaining five balls of the over.

Making his much-awaited return from an injury, all eyes were on Mayank Yadav. After all, the 21-year-old speedster wreaked havoc in the couple of games he played for LSG earlier this year. He consistently racked up speeds over 150 kmph in those games, taking a total of six wickets and an spectacular average and strike rate of 9.0.
Against MI, however, he wasn’t at his lethal best. It is always hard for any pace bowler to deliver at full tilt when coming off an injury. The case was similar for Mayank as well, who failed to hit the 150kmph mark on Tuesday. He was even hit for a few runs, leaking 31 runs in his first three overs. Largely, the right-armer looked to hit short of the length deliveries but wasn’t able to create much of an impact.
LSG would hope that Mayank has not aggravated his previous injury and remain fit for the next clash, i.e., against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, May 5.
